Uzbek names have three components: A personal name, A patronymic name (derived from the father's personal name and masc vs. feminine suffixes, here "-ovich"), and a family surname usually ending in "ov" or "ev". Confusion can arise because in some contexts the surname may proceed the patronym and vice versa and in less formal contexts the patronym may be excluded entirely.
